In December 2007, 35 musicians from 17 widely-known bands came together in New Orleans to record an experimental album. The concept was to capture the vibe and spirit of a live performance, while writing all new music in a collaborative style, allowing each of the musicians participating to put their input into the creative process.

Present and accounted for were George Clinton, members of P-Funk, Dumpstaphunk, Galactic, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Big Sam's Funky Nation, The Warren Haynes Band, Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band, The Lee Boys, Derek Trucks Band, The Soular System, SciFi, Ralph Roddenbery, Laura Reed, Motown legend Sidney Barnes, Belita Woods and others. Most of the artists stayed together in a mansion in New Orleans' French Quarter during the week-long recording sessions. What happened at the sessions was remarkable, creating some of the most amazing funk music that eclipsed even the producers' wildest dreams.

Sadly, in the five years since the actual sessions, Belita Woods and Garry “StarChild” Snyder passed and the resulting album, “The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown, Volume 1,” is dedicated to their memories.

"Simply stated, if this album doesn't funk you up, nothing will. From the first strains of the opening title cut to the last notes of the closer “Amplify,” The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown maintains an astounding level of energy. Even before it was released, it was awarded the 2011 “Funk Song of the Year” at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMAs), and garnered nominations for 2012 “Album of the Year” at the LA Music Awards and 2012 “Country Song of the Year” at the aforementioned HMMAs. The contributions of George Clinton, Ivan Neville, the Asheville Horns, Ralph Roddenbery and Laura Reed are particularly stunning, and make for a thrilling listening experience.

“Volume 2” is currently in production, and if it even comes close to the excitement purveyed by this [first] album, I'm already excited about it."
